Abstract

Building the rib-groin vaults of Trogir cathedral was a centuries-long process: the narthex vault rich in fine details was built in the 13th century; the vaults of the aisles were built in the 14th century while the nave vault was finished in the 15th century. All these vaults are characterized by a geometry that is by no means typical of Dalmatian Gothic architecture. The vault bays with their extended rectangular plans have considerably raised apexes and curved ridges.
The nave vault with its ridge rib resembles the Angevin vaults.
