Presence of Penicillium camemberti Thom in Edam cheese and its toxicity

Abstract

P. camemberti composed 20 to 45 % of total Penicillium mycopopulation isolated from Edam cheese during ripening. The cheese samples taken from dairy plants and market were frequently contaminated by the same species. During the toxicity examination of selected strains of P. camemberti on chicken embryons was found in 83,33 % of embryons letal effect after the first test day. Non of inoculated embryons by P. caemberti extracts was not survived the treatment.
