Abstract

Diet, dietary habits and working environment belong toecologic factors that have influence on dental health. This epidemiologic study was conducted to get an insight into dental morbidity and possible differences in the frequency and spread of caries. Three groups of workers were examined: 122 confectionery industry workers, 121 slaughtering industry workers and 126 metal manufacturing industry workers. Results are presented using internationally adopted parameters for dental health recording: DMF, DMFS, CARIES PREVALENCE and DMFT. Data analysis revealed the confectionery industry workers to have considerably higher values of the mentioned parameters than the other two groups of subjects. DMFS and DMFT were 19.5 and 63.0% in confectionery industry, 14.3 and 48.8% in slaughtering industry, and 11.8 and 38.3% in metal manufacturing industry, respectively. The observed differences were attributed to
dietary habits and working environment. Confectionery industry workers were considered to be at risk for dental morbidity.
