Abstract

The paper puts forth an analysis of cottage industry aspects and popular expression in Branka Frangeš Hegedušić's textile designs. The goal is to further elaborate on the up-to-date insight about the artist's work on basis of subject-matter, documentation, archive documents and texts. By applying an interdisciplinary approach various context roles are considered which have made an impact in molding the artist's character and on the overall work of Branka Frangeš Hegedušić; covering the range from elaborating on family influence and role distribution of native identities to key institutionalized forms of promoting home-based crafts and industry in Croatia. The focus is on questioning the influence of the ideology that manifests itself in designing textiles through national identity and popular expression as a segment of cultural production in the 20th century Twenties and the first half of the Thirties.
