Abstract

The purpose of this article is to describe the nature of the advent hope in contemporary Christian thought: Its general procedure will be to examine a number of current eschatological views and indicate the important similarities and differences between them. The magnitude of the subject and the limited space available to consider it impose several specific requirements upon this endeavor.
One is the obvious need to be selective. Since Christian eschatology has probably never generated more interest than during the past few decades, and the eschatological views of different Christians have probably never been more numerous, only a small fraction of them can be considered in a study of this length. Instead of attempting a comprehensive survey of contemporary Christian eschatology, therefore, the most this article can provide is a brief review of several representative positions.
