ACTIVE AGING IN EUROPE: NEW PERSPECTIVES

Abstract
This article outlines the importance of active aging in the
European contemporary society. The field of geragogy, slowly emerging as a specialized academic field has more and more relevance in the light of the recent developments in lifelong learning and European Education Area. By analyzing the definition, characteristics, demographical dynamics as well as the psycho-physiological, philosophical, religious and socio-economical dimensions of active aging, the author proposes new reform projects and initiatives in order to stimulate active aging at European and regional level.
