Abstract

Writing is a very complex and cognitively demanding activity. It is a general or individual generative ability which is important both in the vertical of education, and for professional life. Writing helps an individual to develop her/his opinion, to improve it and to make it more accurate. Writing was first developed in children through socalled mixed media in which a child learns to write, talk, draw, read, etc., in the same time. For the development of writing, and language in general, it is important for a child to develop the so-called metalinguistic awareness. While adopting writing processes, students experience many mechanical and technical requirements, as well as the difficulty of writing. Therefore, in children’s homes and educational institutions, it is important to develop an encouraging environment for the development of writing, bring it to the real-life environment that resembles the environment of competent authors, and writing must be incorporated into the child’s symbolic repertoire. Instructional approaches to writing and writing trainings, which are described in the paper, help students to develop their writing skills and overcome writing diffi culties. These approaches are based on a socio-cognitive model of self-regulation of writing and social-constructivist approach to teaching writing. According to the results of numerous studies, contemporary processoriented approach to teaching writing is the most effective approach.
