Abstract

Mendicant orders, especially Dominicans and Franciscans were urban orders, so location of their churches and friaries indicates the strength of the towns where they settled. The formation of these orders in the most distinctively and uniquely urban contribution made by the Church in the long history of Christianity. As their mission was directed to the people of the towns, the distribution of their friaries corresponded to urban expansion in Dalmatia.
