FOLK ART AND/OR ARTISTIC FOLKLORE

Abstract

The article is about terms ‘folk art’ and ‘artistic folklore’ explained through the analysis of different approaches to Croatian artistic traditions, especially those in Dalmatia during the first half of the 20th century. They are recognised in the practice of collecting the ethnographic artefacts and institutionalizing of the folk art, and its expert and scientific evaluations. The possibility of distinction between these terms is deducted from the folkloristic approaches, having in mind the necessity of their mutual supplementation in the further researches.
