Abstract

In the introduction different opinions are presented about the etiology of enamel lamellae. On 64 spocimens of teeth with a single and several roots, the number, length and width of enamel lameleo was investigated. Tabular and statistical studies were made of the material by means of the X2 test and the- correlation coefficient. The results showed that the number of enamel lamellae ranged from 0 to 7 in specimens of teeth with several roots and from 2 to 7 in specimens of teeth with a single root. The authors explain this finding by the greater exposure of the front teeth to mechanical, thermic and chemical insults. They believe that for the study of the length and width of enamel lamellae it might be necessary to use other, finer techniques of preparing the specimens.
