Abstract

This article is based on the research into the Crystal Palace. It analyzes exhibition preparations and architectural competition requirements. Three most interesting competition entries are presented as well as a drawing by Joseph Paxton which later served as a basis for its construction. As soon as the exhibition was closed, the Palace was disassembled and reassembled on another location according to new drawings. The discussion part centres on the significance of the architectural competition, prefabricated structures, architecture and the influence of the Crystal Palace.
