Abstract

This paper deals with the analysis and interpretation of the work of the architect Zvonimir Radić (1921.-1985), one of the leading design theoreticians in Croatia. The role and significance of his work is thoroughly documented and evaluated, particularly in the context of modern design history between the early fifties and mid eighties, the period of growing awareness about design as a fundamental socio-cultural fact. All aspects of his work are presented in this paper including the scientific, educational, promotive, advertising and didactic ones as well as a comparative analysis of relevant examples in the context of the Bauhaus tradition.
