Approaches to the Organisation of Urban Renewal

Abstract

Success in organising urban development programmes depends on choice of renewal programme, organisation and continuity of implementation, and the importance of renewal for local development. Renewal is not only the interest of towns; it is also of national interest because it fosters economic progress and the advance of social relations. Urban renewal must focus on encouraging private initiative and establishing public-private investment associations, foundations for developing abandoned land and buildings, fostering nongovernmental urban-development organisations, and establishing zones for entrepreneurial and industrial growth. Actively including the urban population in renewal programmes is important for advancing social relations and should be supported.
