Hebrews: An Overview
William G. Johnsson
; Andrews University, Berrien Springs, Michigan, USA
Abstract
It is not the purpose of this article to canvass all the opinions and arguments concerning the various issues of introduction. Indeed, as has been demonstrated repeatedly in scholarly pursuits, where the data are scanty, theories proliferate. And for some of the questions
about Hebrews— notably the authorship—the evidence is scant. Rather, we seek to unlock those areas that most concern the thoughtful student of Hebrews: the purpose of the writing, the structure of the argument, the nature of the document, and its relevance to us. Fortunately, we do not need to rely on fi nely spun theories to gain access to these matters. Hebrews itself supplies the data and the answers.
