Abstract

Tissue reaction to tetrafluoretilen (Teflon) and its contrast were was evaluated to determine whether Teflon can be used in the construction of dental implants. A Teflon implant for the femur bone was made in mice. The animals were killed in certain time intervals and pieces of tissue surrounding the implant were evaluated histologically. The contrast of Teflon was examined by X-ray after implanted in an extracted human tooth. Findings indicated that Teflon is biologically tolerable and biochemically indifferent. Not one of the Teflon implants was rejected. X-rays revealed, however, that the contrast of Teflon is inadequate
