Abstract

The circumstances of the commission and high visual quality of the altarpiece commissioned by a nobleman from Dubrovnik Tonko Gradić, the son of Matko, have already been mentioned in literature. It was painted in the late 16th century for St Roche's Chapel (Sv. Roko) at Grgurići near Slano. The author considers the Antwerpen mannerist painter, Marten de Vos (1532-1603) to have painted this altarpiece, becouse some figures, parts of the landscape and composition are identical to other this pictures, together with his collaborators who participated in less important parts (angels by the Mother of God
