Abstract

Cardiovascular diseases are taking a leading place in
the morbidity and moratlity in the world, including
Croatia, and therefore representing a global health
problem. There are many changeable and unchangeable
risk factors responsible for the occurrence of these
diseases. The purpose of this thesis is to highlight the
importance of health-related fitness and its cardiorespiratory
component as predictors of cardiovascular
risks. Results of attached researches provides strong
scientific evidence that mesurement, control and
maintenance of optimal level of cardio-respiratory fitness
significantly reduces the risk of cardiovascular morbidity
and mortality. More detailed approach and
implementation of this component in kinesiology and
medicine would give a significant contribution to the
preservation of health and longevity.
