Abstract

The aim of the study was the assessment of the
physical activity level in patients with acute coronary
syndrome using Baecke's questionnaire, and comparison
of the physical activity level between the study population
and general population of Croatia. A total of 196 patients
with acute coronary syndrome filled in Baecke's
questionnaire to assess their level of physical activity and
measurements of anthropometric parameters (body
weight, body height, waist and hip circumference) have
been performed. The physical activity level in
investigated patients presented by Baecke's indices has
been compared with a representative sample of the
Croatia's general population. Study population had lower
leisure time activity index (2.8 vs. 3.0, p= 0.0002) and
total physical activity index (2.6 vs. 2.8, p= 0.0005) in
comparison with a representative sample of the Croatia's
general population. In addition, the patients had
statistically significant larger waist circumference (cm)
(101.4 vs. 93.2, p= 0.000), as well as waist to hip ratio
(WHR) (p= 0.985 vs. 0.912, p=0.000), but didn't have
bigger body mass index (BMI) (kg/m2) (28.36 vs. 27.64,
p= 0.07). When compared with general population of
Croatia, the patients with acute coronary syndrome are
overweight and have lower leisure time, as well as total
physical activity indices. Waist circumference, as well as
WHR proved here higher significance than BMI in
estimation of obesity risk.
