Abstract

The concept and the social significance of gender and gender identity in the context of traditionality is very hard to change in its core. Traditionally unfavorable social position of women is getting better very slowly, although contemporary socio-political tendencies are tending towards the systems of equal gender positions; to improve this we will need a systematic basis of knowledge in the field of gender studies and much interpretation/reinterpretation of traditional, as well as contemporary social discourses in(side) which we live and in which we are produced as gendered social subjects. This paper is discussing the concept of gender and the specific position of women and female gender identity by comparing it and analyzing it through the social discourses of the traditional and contemporary living in Serbia.
