Abstract
Under the leadership of Tomasz Ważny (Laboratory of Tree-Ring Research, University of Arizona) and as a part of Aegean Dendrochronology Project collection of wood samples continued from 17th to 19th of June 2013 in the wider area of Zagreb. Department of Archaeology, University of Zagreb (Prof Aleksandar Durman) and Institute of Archaeology (Katarina Botić) were also involved. Samples were taken from wood mostly collected on several locations from river Sava (location between Podsused and Jankomir bridges – 16 samples, location near the water treatment facility at Žitnjak – 12 samples, location near Rugvica – 23 samples) and in the area of lower course of river Krapina (37 samples). Other samples were of various origin: 1 fresh wood sample from Zagorje, 2 samples from river Sava near Orašje, 4 samples from river Drava near Osijek (ship and bridge remains), 20 samples from island of Pag (remains of Roman harbour), 1 sample from river Kupa near Karlovac (bridge remains?, 20th ct.) and 18 samples from Čepinski Martinci (remains of a Bronze Age well). In 2013 a total of 134 samples were collected from which only one belongs to pine (Pinus) while others belong to oak (Quercus sp.).
The preliminary report from previous seasons (2009-2012) shows great potential in forming dendrochronological chart from 5894 BC to 1406 AD but more samples are needed to fill the gaps.
