Abstract

In this study a total of 361 taxa (337 species and 24 subspecies) of vascular flora of the Nakovana Plateau and its surroundings were recorded. The investigated taxa belong to 252 genera and 81 families. Twenty three taxa are new for the flora of the Pelješac Peninsula. Families with the highest number of taxa are Poaceae (11.1%), Lamiaceae (8.0%), Asteraceae (7.8%) and Fabaceae (7.8%). According to the analysis of life forms, the most numerous are therophytes (28.5%) and hemicryptophytes (26.9%). The phytogeographical analysis shows the strong prevalence of the Mediterranean floral element (53.1%). Among recorded taxa 14 are endemic, 25 taxa are threatened and 25 taxa are legally protected.
