Abstract

Although a large number of people would be happiest if they were their own bosses, a small percentage of them actually ops for a career in entrepreneurship. According to a recent research, only 10% of European population chooses entrepreneurship, while the percentage of those thinking of engaging in it is significantly higher. Given the general consensus on entrepreneurship as the driver of the economy, it is paradoxical not having more people turning entrepreneurs. One of the reasons lies in the „I’m not made for it“attitude, while the other reason is a lack of motivation. A belief that entrepreneurs are born is nowadays losing support, while there is a growing body of evidence that entrepreneurship can be taught. Raising awareness and developing entrepreneurial competencies, supported by the understanding of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, as well as one own personal preferences, can enable a successful entrepreneurial transition to everyone. A change of perspective and habitual thinking, readiness to accept risk and act on opportunity are the first and foremost steps in building an entrepreneurial career path.
