Abstract

A quantitative approach to sonic environment in urbanism is included in the implementation of noise protection measures. A qualitative approach to acoustic comfort, which might be achieved by an enhancement of the sonic environment of urban spaces through overall planning and design, is not integrated in urban planning and landscape architecture. This paper explores the development of scientific researches on the sonic environment with the aim to determine its potential role in an integral approach to urban design and a proper sonic environment from the perspective of urbanism and landscape architecture.
