Abstract

Based on conducted research, this paper examines the management of energy costs based on the principles of energy efficiency in the services sector of the city of Zadar. Field research included 94 organizations in the service sector which includes 120 objects in total. Introductory part of the work emphasizes theoretical knowledge on managing energy
costs, while the focus of the work is set on results of the research and discussion. Survey results indicate that there are still relatively high inefficiencies in the management of Energy costs in the service sector, but also that there are diff erences in the implementation of sustainable energy management in the public and commercial services sub-sector in Croatia. Croatian accession to the EU should be the turning point in adapting measures for improving energy efficiency in business organizations in Croatia, with the goal of achieving
energy efficiency in the EU.
