Abstract
Are there preconditions for declaring status of national security threat for political corruption is the main question of this article. Because a status of this kind would mean giving the top priority and the outmost dedication to efforts for dealing with this problem. However, not every negative social phenomenon is also a security threat, and to make that distinction certain criteria is needed. Theoretical framework with criteria for determining real security threats on the state level is provided from the learnings of Copenhagen school, which is a theory coming out of the field of contemporary security studies. Security analysis is therefore observed in five distinguished sectors (military, political, economic, societal and environmental). It is shown that, by the Copenhagen school criteria, political corruption endangers national security and therefore satisfies preconditions for declaring a security notion (or, in other words, for securitization).
