Abstract

Observation and monitoring of children is the first step in transforming the educational practice to achieve the actual quality. The actual quality is defined as the quality of the process created by reconstructing and co-constructing in the context (Pirard, 2011). In addition to providing the important insights into the child’s development and behavior, observation allows the educator professional reflection, which is assumed to be the key skill of an educator in the contemporary educational paradigm. In this paper, we have given a special emphasis to these two important features of observation. Additionally, the observation in the preschool period has its own specificities that are a challenge for educators in terms of finding the most appropriate ways and techniques for observation, as well as in raising the awareness of and controlling the aggravating factors that affect the objectivity of observation.
