Contemporary Apocalyptic Th eology in Dialogue With Bultmann’s and Beker’s Theological Heritage

Abstract
Th e aim of this article is to present and evaluate the content and direction of the contemporary apocalyptic theology. Focus is on the work Apocalyptic and the Future of Th eology and especially on the relationship between apocalyptic theology and the issue of faith and knowledge in the fi rst and fourth chapter. Th e author evaluates the content and scope of Congdon’s apocalyptic typology in relation to Bultmann’s theological thought as well as C. Beker’s apocalyptic theology and his scrutiny of the critique of apocalyptic thought. In the last section the author surveys the critical contribution of L. Martyn, R.
Bernstein, W. Placher, F. Watson, R. Hays to this topic as well as some less known authors such as Sigve Tonstad’s interpretation of the book of Revelation as theodicy in his work Saving God’s Reputation.
