Abstract

Within the establishment of the astro-geodetic triangulation on the area of former Yugoslavia during the 50s of 20th century, among 19 base lines in the whole network, 5 of them were located on the Croatian territory. The last among them was established the base line near Pula in 1959. In the introduction, part of this article the state of the Ist order trigonometric network was considered along with the necessity of its modernization, whereas in sequel an overview of field activities on establishment, survey and calculations of corrections and reductions were given. All these activities were focused on determination of the distance of Pula base line on the reference ellipsoid surface. The ultimate goal of Pula base line establishment and its measurements was determination of homogeneous linear scale of the trigonometric network on the whole area of its coverage. The measurements were carried out by the survey crew of the Military-Geographic Institute from Belgrade using Jäderin base line equipment. Along with the presentation of corrections and reductions needed within Pula base line calculations, the estimation of their numerical values was given as well. The criteria of base line measurements accuracy were given, specifically for determination of random and systematical errors. Although the concept of Ist order trigonometric network establishment was superseded by application of electro-optical distance meters, and especially nowadays by GNSS, it is worth pointing out procedures and efforts carried out with the goal of establishment of the correct metric relationship over Croatian territory.
