Abstract


This work describes the idioms with the lexeme of an animal that is their component and which have been compiled in the field research of Croatian phraseology in Međimurje and the Hungarian Mura River basin. The representative of the idioms in Hungarian Mura River basin is the village Serdahelj while Mala Subotica is the representative of the idioms in Međimurje. The animal idioms are inspired by qualities of animals, their appearance, behaviour, but also by their relation to the man, as well as the man's connection with animals.
This work shows the sequence of the animal idioms and their frequency in the both languages.
