Abstract

Red spider mite (Panonychus ulmi Koch) is a widespread pest that attacks almost all agricultural crops in Croatia. It is known for its preference to certain varieties and high nitrogen compounds content both of which positively affect the abundance and fertility of mites. The study examined differences in the population of mites on several varieties (Golden Delicious, Gala and Jonagored) in two systems of cultivation, with and without hail nets. Although there are apparently large differences in the population of mites between varieties and cultivation methods, they are not statistically proven.
