Abstract

The paper deals for the first time in recent Croatian legal doctrine with an analysis of the operating principles of associations in the Law on Associations. These are the principle of independence, publicity, democratic organisation, non-profitability and free activity in public life. Provisions comprising the aforesaid principles, as well as their concretisation in other legal norms have been analysed. Certain normative imperfections have been noted and an overview of relevant administrative and case law have been done (including the practice of the European Court of Human Rights). In conclusion, the results of the analysis have been summarized.
