Abstract
The quality of life and work in institutions is governed greatly by the
quality of the organizational climate which is closely related to the behaviours of all engaged individuals and the learning outcomes. It reflects the individuals’ socio-emotional, ethical and academic experiences and includes a large number of factors: spatial and time context, security, teaching methods, relations, etc. The present study aimed to investigate the quality of the academic climate within a higher education institution by using a new instrument which was, for the purpose of the study, adapted and validated for the first time in Croatia. The study was carried out on a sample of 444 students during two academic years. The analysed metric characteristics of the academic climate questionnaire used in the present study showed that it measures three dimensions of the climate quality: student relations, relations between teachers and students and undesirable behaviours. Therefore, the instrument used in the study displayed satisfactory metric characteristics and is, due to its simplicity and clarity, appropriate for use in institutions at all levels of the educational system.
