Zdenko DUNDOVIĆ
Abstract
Author of this article depicts chronological overview of the folk missions that were founded and ran by Jesuits in the diocese of Zadar. All of them were regularly organized with the permission and support of the archbishop of Zadar, during the second half of the
nineteenth century. Author describes all the problems Jesuits came across during their missionary work, as well as how local clergy and population perceived them, and what were results of their spiritual work. Furthermore, author reveals important details about
geographical, demographic, social and religious characteristics of the local communities in the diocese of Zadar in the second half of the nineteenth century. All the presented conclusions and theses are based on the analysis of the extant archival sources preserved
in the Archives of the Zadar Diocese and Archives of the Croatian Province of Jesuit order in Zagreb.
