An example of succesion in higher fungi

Abstract

During five years the development of higher fungi on two walnut stumps was regularly observed. On each stump six species were found, but three of them are common to both. The succession of species is shown in tabular form and, more detailed, in the text. The causes of the succession and also of the different rate of decay of stumps are finally discussed.
