Abstract

Musical talent is manifested in different ways. Scientific research and everyday practice have shown that parental heritage, living environment and hard work are factors that probably have the greatest impact on the emergence and development of giftedness. For the development and realization of musical talent it is important to recognize it and to start learning music from an early age. Early detection of musically gifted children and their inclusion in programmes appropriate to their above-average abilities as well as systematically raising the musical education of the general population are the main objectives of music schools. Recognized highly musically gifted children should be provided with training in special music schools for gifted students. The examples of schools for musically gifted children in Ćuprija (Serbia), London (England) and Moscow (Russia) in this paper, illustrate a model of such a school applicable to Croatia.
