Abstract

A study of health disorders caused by vibrations was carried out among forestry workers in Gorski Kotar in the period from 1965 to 1981. Altogether 221 loggers and 127 control forestry workers were examined. Analysis of the subjective symptoms possibly associated with the effect of vibrations included pallor of the fingers. Of objective tests the cold-test and digital plethysmography were done. The presence was noted of two different types of disorder in the loggers in respect to the types of motorsaw which they were using: Stihl contra, Stihl 070 and Stihl OSlAV. The disorders were most common among the loggers handling Stihl contra saw, followed by those who worked with Stihl 070. Among the loggers using two motor-saws in succession i.e. Stihl 070 and Stihl OSlAV disorders occurred less frequently. The least number of disorders due to vibrations was recorded among the loggers using only motor-saw Stihl 051AV.
