Abstract

Obrete mesta nekaê nevedomaê - Vision in the Legend of Saint Agapitus
Čtenie s(ve)t(a)go Agapita, a legend adopted into Croatian Glagolitic literature from the common source of Old Slavonc (Church Slavonic) - Byzantian literature, is interesting from the genological point of view because in it the secondary genre of eschatological vision can be recognized. Within the episodically arranged text the most detailed and most impresive episode is the one about the saint's "travel" through Heaven. The function of this small vision (preserved in two Croatian Glagolitic manuscripts from the 15th and 16th centuries) is primarly the confirmation of Agapius' sancity and his elevation above ordinary people, as well as the religious-eshatological function of instruction about Heavenly bliss. Appart from these specific traits, most stylistic features, elements of content and topoi found in this work are common with those of individual eschatological visions in Croatian Glagolitic literature.
