Abstract

Encycles of Catholic Church are the most relevant source for the analysis of Christian concept of progress. From the end of the last century these Encyclics have been continuously occupied with social question as the essential question of modernity. They speak in favour and conceive the social progress as the basic element of progress in general. At the same time these Encyclics present a rich source of ideas and attitudes to various phenomena of our time: science, technology, economic development, ecology, democracy, participation, liberalism, socialism, etc. The aim of this text is to search for concrete attitudes of the Encyclics towards mentioned phenomena, with constant attention to their relation to the concept of progress.
