Abstract

Plastoglobules of considerable size (0,5 —1,0 μm) appear in Ch. comosum. Therefore it is very easy to follow the changes of these plastoglobules by means of electron as well as light microscope. Some experiments have been undertaken to get more information on the role of the plastoglobules.
It has been definitely proved that plastoglobules increase in size during senescence of the leaves obtaining at the moment of death their maximal size. The variation of environmental factors as photoperiod, light intensity, temperature, seasonal changes of the year had no influence on the size and number of plastoglobules. These results are in disagreement with some earlier opinions that the appearance of plastoglobules is connected with seasonal variations or that they represent a reserve substance.
