Abstract

The leaves, the bark of the stem and the cotyledons of Elaeagnus umbellata were homogenized in 80% methanol in a blendor. The plant material was repeatedly extracted with methanol at + 2 °C. The separation of the basic compounds was achieved on an Amberlite CG-50 column. The identification of serotonin was based on comparisons of Rf values, of color reactions and fluorescence characteristics with the authentic sample of 5-Hydroxytryptamine.
Histochemical investigations with 6°/o p-Dimethylaminobenzaldehyde in cone. HC1 indicate that serotonine is located in the lower epidermis of the leaf, in the primary and the secondary cortices of the stem, and in the seeds (in the cotyledons).
