Studies on Root Formation in Short Shoots of Austrian Pine (Pinus nigra Arn.)

Abstract
Root formation in short shoots of Austrian pine (Pinus nigra) has been studied. The following results have been obtaind:
1. The short shoots are able to form callus and roots.
2. The formation of callus and roots is stimulated by IAA, IBA, IPA, but not by NAA.
3. The ability of callus and root formation is essentially dependent both on age of short shoots and of the plant.
4. The callus is formed by the cambium.
5. The formation of roots proceeds in the developing callus tissue.
