Abstract

This work deals with lichenoflora of the massif of Sara Mountain which has been poorly investigated. The results of investigations in the period of three years are presented.
Ninety taxa (species, varieties and forms), belonging to two classes, Ascolichenes and Lichenes imperfecti were determined. The latter class has not been examined in Yugoslavia until now. They include 17 families and 33 tribes in total, of which 9 species or 10% are new-found in Yugoslavia, 38 species or 42.2% are new-found in Macedonia, and 73 species or 81% are new-found in the massif of the mountain Sara.
The following taxa appear in the flora of Yugoslavia, for the first time: Psoronoma hypnorum (Vahl.) S. Gray., Solarina crocea (L.) Ach., Stereocualon paschale (L.) Hoffm., Umbilicaria cylindrica (L.) Del. f. mesenteriformis Frey., Umbilicaria velea Ach. emend. Frey., Usnea cavernosa Tuck., Letharia vulpina (L.) Wain., Lepraria earuginosa (Sm.), Lepraria crassissima (Hue.) Hethan.
Considering floristic elements, the newly found flora is rather uniform, its main part being composed of the species, comonly found in similar habitats all over Europe. The most represented are European species (63), and after them cosmopolitan species (9), hollarctic (6), Alpine (5), and Euro-Asiatic species (3). Only 2 Mediterranean species were found. Boreal and Arcto-Alpine species are represented with only one species each.
