Abstract

Callus tissue of European Black Pine (Pinus nigra Arn.) — clone K was cultivated on six culture media of various composition whereby the increase of fresh and dry weight has been determined, the cell size compared and the differentiation of tracheidal elements followed.
The results show that the clone K behaves somewhat differently from the callus tissues of other Pinus species, because:
(1) it grows better on media with the mineral composition after Murashige -Skoog than after White.
(2) its growth is not favored by glucose.
(3) in the differentiation of xylem elements the mineral composition seems to be the limiting factor.
