Abstract

The area of Illyrian-Adriatic endemic species C. weldenii stretches along the littoral part of Dinaride-range from Trieste to the Albanian border. Early this spring, we gathered this plant in some places of central Dalmatia (Kozjak over Kaštela, Prapatnica north of Trogir, the Island of Brač), where so far it has been known conly from the vicinity of Split and Drniš (Fig. 1.).
Our localities add to the continuity of the area of C. weldenii species. Besides the Island of Brač is the first locality recorded for this species in the Adriatic island-area.
Analysing the populations of the species C. weldenii from the localities mentioned we have found that the populations from Vidova Gora (the Island of Brač) differ in the colour of flower from all other populations. The flowers are dichromatic: outside petals are dark violet and inside ones are white. We attribute an taxonomic importace to this morphological characteristic and have named the populations from Vidova gora Crocus weldenii Hoppe et Fürnrohr f. bicolor Pavletić Zi. et Trinajstić, f. nov.
