Abstract

Systematical geobotanical investigations were carried out in the Strahinščica mountain region over the last several years.
In this paper, results of the research into the grassland vegetation of classes Molinio-Arrhenatheretea are presented.
In this region five associations were established: Angelico-Cirisietum oleracei and Equiseto-Scirpetum sylvatici of the order Molinietalia and Bromo-Cynosuretum cristati, Arrhenatheretum elatioris and Festuco- Agrostetum of the order Arrhenatheretalia and of the alliance Arrhenatherion.
All the associations, except as. Festuco-Agrostetum which is only fragmentarily developed, are more or less well characterized by typical species of all systematic categories.
The floristic composition of Bromo-Cynosuretum cristati association indicates that it belongs to its western variant, according to Ilijanić (1963, 1971).
It is significant for the association Arrhenatheretum elatioris that it makes a transition to the Centraleuropean variant —Arrhenatheretum elatioris medioeuropaeum in the sense of Horvatić (1963), because some south-eastern species (Cirsium canum, Trifolium patens) are absent from this association, or are very rare by present (Ononis arvensis).
The soil reaction (pH) measurement are given in Table 6. It is evident that the soils of the grasses are poorly acid to poorly basic. An exception to these is as. Festuco-Agrostetum whose soil reaction is fairly acid.
The biological spectrum shows that hemicryptophytes are predominant in the communities of the classes Molinio-Arrhenatheretea (Table 7).
