Abstract

Data from the literature (Fiori 1925-1929) and analyses of herbarium collections (Hb ZA; Hb of I. Trinajstic) have shown that some specimens from the Island of Dugi Otok belong to the species Daucus dentatus Bert., which is new in the flora of Yugoslavia.
The main differential morphological characteristics of this species are primarily the proportions and form of the spines i.e. dentes, which are situated along the secondary ridge of the mericarp. The number, position and shape of the resin canals along the mericarp have also been studied.
Daucus dentatus is a typical plant of coastal cliffs (occuring on the islands of Italy and South of France) and it occupies the same type of habitats on the Island of Dugi Otok.
