Abstract

The vegetation which according to its floristic composition can be included in the alliance Oleo-Ceratonion in Yugoslavia spreads in the warmest part of the Adriatic coast. In Hrvatsko primorje it covers the central and south Dalmatian islands, the penninsula of Pelješac and the wider area of Dubrovnik, and in the Montenegrin coast parts of the coast at Budva and Ulcinj. This is the region with characteristic climate conditions, where the maean minimum of the coldest month exceeds 3.5° C, the mean maiximum of the warmest month is above 28° C, the total annual amount of rainfall is below 1000 mm, and the lithological substrate is limestone.
It is interesting from a synchorological standpoint that nearly all characteristic species of the alliance Oleo-Ceratonion are spread omitho- chorologically, which explains the fact that many isolated stands of this vegetation have a more or less uniform floristic composition even at rather great distances.
The alliance Oleo-Ceratonion in the Adriatic coast line is represented by two associations, namely as. Oleo-Lentiscetum adriaticum and as. Oleo-Euphorbietum dendroidis.
