Wild Flora of Greece

Abstract

The number of wild and endemic species of Greek flora is given. The sources of plant richness and the abundance of Greek aromatic, medicinal, apiaristic and ornamental plants are explained. Also, endemic species are examined, and order of Greek endemic species is given similar to that of paleoendemic and neoendemic genera. Additionally, the participation of various geoelements is considered as well as adventive flora, which includes more than 80 species, such as different introduced weeds and other useful plants of foreign origin. The causes of plant reduction in Greece are defined and indicated together with relevant proposals made to improve on the situation
