Abstract

Many samples of the species Erigeron canadensis L. with marked symptoms of viral disease were found in many locations in Sarajevo area, Yugoslavia. A virus belonging to the group of tombusviruses was isolated from infected plants.
The identification of the virus is based on reactions of diagnostic herbaceous species, characteristic cytopathogenic changes, morphology and size of viral particles, serological test of double diffusion in agar gel, and immune electron microscopy by »trapping« method (SPIEM). In serological test the serum against spinach strain of tomato bushy stunt virus was used.
This experiment, has shown for the first time that the species Enigeron canadensis is a natural host plant for a tombusvirus.
