Abstract

Top management compensation has an important role in motivating and stimulating top managers’ performance. Financial compensation and other non-financial awards received by top managers for their services to the organization are critical from the point of view of human resources development. This is a strategic tool for attracting and motivating top managers, in order to increase company competitiveness on the market. This tool needs to be in accordance with the company development strategy and business goals, but
it also needs to match executives’ expectations. The main goal of this research paper is to explore compensation packages of top managers in Great Britain, Germany, France and Croatia. This research shows that long-term incentives and benefits are more important to Western European top managers. It also shows that shares and bonuses are equally important to both Western and Eastern European top managers. A comparative analysis of countries in the sample is conducted in this paper.
